| Health, Disease and Cure are such vital words in the field of medicine that before anything is to be discussed; the meanings of these terms should be understood in both, conventional or as commonly understood, and in Homoeopathic parlance.
The World Health Organization defines HEALTH as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and does not consist only of the absence of disease or infirmity." The WHO definition classifies 70-95% of people as unhealthy. A deeper inquiry into the definition of "health" reveals that what makes a cell healthy is unique from what makes an organism healthy.
According to the Oxford Dictionary word Health is derived from… Middle Englishhelthe, from Old Englishhealth. It is defined as:
health (helth) n. The overall condition of an organism at a given time. 1. Soundness, especially of body or mind; freedom from disease or abnormality. 2. A condition of optimal well-being: concerned about the ecological health of the area the various systems…
According to Wikipedia encyclopedia: “Defined negatively, Health is the absence of illness, functionally, as the ability to cope with everyday activities, or positively, as fitness and well-being. In any organism, health is a form of homeostasis. This is a state of balance, with inputs and outputs of energy and matter in equilibrium (allowing for growth).”
According to the Wikipedia encyclopedia:
“A Disease is any abnormal condition of the body or mind that causes discomfort, dysfunction, or distress to the person affected or those in contact with the person. Sometimes the term is used broadly to include injuries, disabilities, syndromes, symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function.” In Biology, disease refers to any abnormal condition of an organism that impairs function. The term disease is often used metaphorically for disordered, dysfunctional, or distressing conditions of other things, as in disease of society.
The etiology of Disease according to the Oxford Dictionary can be traced back to the Middle English word -disese, and from Old French : des-, dis- + aise, ease; see ease and it’s meaning is explained as:
dis·ease (d -z z ) n. 1. A pathological condition of a part, organ, or system of an organism resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms. 2. A condition or tendency, as of society, regarded as abnormal and harmful. 3. Obsolete Lack of ease; trouble.
The word cure comes from the Latin cura meaning care, concern or attention.
cure (ky?r) n. 1. Restoration of health; recovery from disease. 2. A method or course of treatment used to restore health. 3. An agent that restores health; a remedy. Or we can simply say that CURE is the journey from Disease to Health.
HEALTH AND DISEASE IN HOMOEOPATHY
The advent of Homoeopathy in the world ushered a new era in the field of medicine and gave a new meaning to the words HEALTH, DISEASE and CURE. In the Organon of Medicine Dr. Hahnemann, in military parlance, sounded the recall to all physicians in the field and laid before them a new plan of campaign and a new method of attack upon the enemy forces of disease. Making it possible, for the first time in history, to treat the diseases under scientific principles and perform true cures by medication.
According to the Homoeopathic principles it’s the immaterial, spiritual VITAL FORCE, the simple substance everywhere that pervades the organism in inner self as a soul in both health and disease. This force when disturbed can give to the organism its abnormal sensations and incline it to the irregular actions which are called Disease.
Dr. Hahnemann explains in aphorism 11:
“The material organism, without the vital force, is capable of no sensation, no function, no self preservation, it derives all sensation and performs all the functions of life solely by means of the immaterial being ( the vital force ) which animates the material organism in health and disease.”
Health n Disease, both being essentially merely conditions of life in the living organism, convertible each into the other. In each condition the modifying agent or factor acts primarily upon the life principle(vital force), which is the living part of the organism.
According to Longfellow
“As to the bow the cord is So to the body is the vital force”
“HEALTH IS EASE MAINTAINED”
Dr. Hahnemann in aphorism 9 explains :
“In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force(autocracy), the dynamis that animates the material body(organism), rules with unbounded sway, and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious , vital operation, as regards both sensation and functions so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our exsistence.”
Hahnemann considers Health as a state indicating harmonious functioning of the Life Force leading to the peculiar sense of well being .It is that balanced condition of the iiving organism in which the integral harmonious performance of the vital functions tends to the preservation of the organism and the normal development of the individual .

“DISEASE IS EASE DISTURBED i.e. DISEASE” | Hahnemann considers Disease as a state indicating disharmoninous functioning of the Life Force. It is an abnormal vital process, a changed condition of life , which is inimical to the true development of the individual and tends to the organic dissolution.
Diseases of men are not caused by any substance, any acridity ,that is to say, any disease matter but that they are solely spirit like (dynamic) derangements of the spirit like power (the vital force) that animates the human body.

CURE IN HOMOEOPATHY “CURE IS EASE RESTORED”
Cure from homoeopathic point of view; consist in the speedy, gentle and permanent restitution of health or alleviation and obliteration of disease, in its entire extent, in the shortest most reliable and safest manner, according to the clearly intelligible reasons or principles.
Dr. Hahnemann explains in Aphorism 2 of Organon:
“The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health, or removal of disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles.”
The true healing art is in its nature a pure science of experience , and can must rest on clear facts and on the sensible phenomenon pertaining to their sphere of action , for all the subjects it has to deal with are clearly and satisfactorily cognizable by the senses through experience. Knowledge of disease to be treated, knowledge of the effects of medicines, and how the ascertained effects of medicines are to be employed for the removal of diseases all this experience alone teaches adequately.
Principle of Cure according to Allopathy n Homoeopathy is distinguishable in its views. Both are hereby explained in the complete extent so that a simple man can understand and choose the right, simplest, easiest and purest path to the cure in the most harmless way. Allopathic Views
Allopathy has got materialistic approch to the diseases. It considers diseases to be caused by the material causes. They only fancied that they could discover the cause of disease ,they did not discover it however as it’s not perceptible and not discoverable. For as far the greatest number of diseases are of dynamic (spiritual) origin and their cause is therefore not perceptible to the senses so they exerted themselves to imagine one and established it with help of pathology, which theoretical medicine regarded as the prima causa morbi i.e. the proximate cause of the disease.
The old school of medicine believes it might cure disease in a direct manner by the removal of the (imaginary) material cause of the disease-for the physicians of the ordinary school, while investigating and forming a judgement upon a disease, and not less while seeking for the curative indication, it was next to impossible to divert themselves of these materialistic ideas , and to regard the nature of the spiritual – corporeal organism as such a highly potentialised entity, that its sensational and functional vital changes , which are called diseases, must be produced and effected chiefly, if not solely, by dynamic ( spiritual ) influences, and could not be effected in any other way. Hence, they dreamed of effecting causal cures by endeavouring to remove these imaginary and presumed material causes of the disease .
It presupposes the existence of morbid matters and acridities; hence exerts itself either to clear away the imaginary disease matter or to conduct it elsewhere (by emetics, purgatives diaphoretics, diuretics etc.)
It assails the body with larger doses of powerful medicines often repeated in rapid successions for a long time whose long enduring, not infrequently, frightful effects, it knows not, and which it purposely, it would almost seem, makes unrecognizable by the commingling of several such unknown substances in one prescription, by their long continued employment it develops in the body new and often ineradicable medicinal diseases. Whenever it can, it employs, in order to keep in favour with the patient remedies that immediately suppress and hide the morbid symptoms by opposition (contraria contrariis) for a short time (palliatives ), but that leaves disposition to these symptoms (the disease itself) strengthened and aggravated. It considers affections on the exterior of the body as purely local, and existing there independently; and vainly supposes that it has cured them when it has driven them away by the means of external remedies, so that internal affection is compelled to breakout on a nobler and a more important part.
This non healing art , which for many centuries has been firmly established in full possession of the power to dispose of life and death of patients according to it’s own good will and pleasure, in that period has shorten the lives of ten times and rendered many millions of patients more diseased and wretched than they were originally.
Homoeopathic Views
Dr. Hahnemann in Aphorism 1 explains :
“The physicians high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cude, as it is termed.”
Homoeopathy is defined as “Art of Healing” and Cure is the product of the Art.
Homoeopathy knows that a cure can take place by the reaction of the vital force against the rightly chosen remedy that has been ingested, and that the cure will be certain and rapid in proportion to the strength with which the vital force still prevails in the patient. Metamorphically speaking, disease is resistance. Disease, manifested by the symptoms, expresses the vital reaction and resistance of the living organism to the inroads of some injurious agent or influence. It is a battle, a struggle, a costly n painful resistance of the invader manifested through signs and symptoms The homoeopathic physician considers disease as a deviation from health which is made known to him through signs and symptoms it logically follows from this a rational system of threapeutics will have these signs and symptoms pointing unmistakably to a curative remedial agent . Hahnemann considers that natural tendency of the Life Force is to assert itself and thus restore the state of harmony. This natural tendency in some instances is affected unfavourably by certain stigmata. These stigmata lead to chronic relapsing states of ill-health, generally difficuit but not impossible to cure.
Strictly speaking ,it’s not against disease that we struggle, but against the cause of the disease. They do not exist in the life substance itself, they are foreign to the spirit. According to Hahnemann Remove the effects and you remove disease , the cause of effects – “Cessat effectus cessat causa”. if the disease effects are removed in toto then only we have a cure otherwise it is said to be palliation . Hahnemann concieved symptom-similarity of drugs for tissues, the symptom –similarity of drugs and tissues as essential for the medical treatment of medically curable diseases.
“Homoeopathy sheds not a drop of blood, administers no emetics, purgatives, laxatives, diaphoretics, drives off no external affection by external means, prescribes no warm baths, or medicated clysters, applies no Spanish flies, mustard plasters, no setons, no issues, excites no ptyalism, burns not with moxa or red hot iron to the very bone, and so forth, but gives with its own hand, its own preparation of simple uncompounded medicines which it is accurately acquainted with, never subdues pain with opium.” Homoeopathy avoids everything in the slightest degree enfeebling, and hence, it employs for the cure only those medicines whose effects in altering and derranging (dynamically) the health it knows accurately, and from these it relects one whose pathogenetic power (its medicinal disease) is capable of removing the natural disease in question by similarity (similia smilibus), this it administers to the patient in simple form, but in rare and minute doses with this result: that without weakening, injuring, or torturing him in the very least, the natural disease is extinguished and the patient, even whilest he is getting better, gains strength and thus is cured – an apparently easy but actually troublesome and difficult business, and one requiring much thought, but which restores the patient without suffering, in a short time, to perfect health - and thus it is a salutary and blessed business…………… .
